It's like they figured, "If they've read this far, they're not going to stop now, so we can go all out and pull no punches with what we really think. I do not subscribe to mindless, knee-jerk, PC Think, but I found myself raising my eyebrow more than once.

I remained unmoved; the last book of The Policeman trilogy achieved a level of profoundness that made this discussion feel like a sixth-graders’ debate (no offense to any sixth-graders who might be reading this).Sounds like the Suck Fairy got in there while you weren't looking and spread her Suck all over the pages. Niven and Pourelle's great characterizations make this a wonderfully compelling read, and one that is hard to put down. For those, I’d head over to the more modern interpretation of asteroid strikes in The Last Policeman and be prepared for all the feels.

Yes there was what happened in New Orleans after Katrina, but that behavior wasn't so common in other areas hit by Katrina. The benchmarks in this genre for me are The Stand, Alas Babylon and Swan Song, two of which thread the generic end of the world story with the supernatural and are much better for it and the other, Alas Babylon, is just a better written, more interesting and more immersive tale.really good book, not dated and tackles the real issues faced by humanity after such a catastrophic event.

I suppose Niven and Pournelle's defense would be that not all of the New Brotherhood Army is black, and there is a black astronaut who's one of the good guys, and a few black farmers in the Stronghold are mentioned. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Book has light bumping at the head and tail of the spine and at the tips of the two upper outside corners. Later the glaciers come down from the north freezing all nothing can stop these monsters, for the few survivors a new Ice Age too. Some of the race issues can be read charitably, some of the characters are racist and that wouldn't change after a comet hit. Apparently if a comet hits Earth the Black Panthers will turn into cannibals while the white people quietly establish a conservative co. Never mind that billions of people are dead and the good guys have effectively organized themselves into a feudal holding. Her one negative comment was that the pro-technology pitch might turn off some readers but "all in all it's a good book, if not a great one". The middle part (where the comet hits and the characters struggle to make it through the first few days) is probably the best put-together, but even the first third, where we meet all the characters and go through the build-up worked.
