It is quite grown up which is why I also advise that it's not one for young ya or for anyone if a nervous disposition. However things aren't as it seems when she arrives, there Cameron who is always in a mood and who had has been burnt hands, little Lillias who has a major fear of bones and then Piper who seems too good to be true.

I think I found out about this book from someone’s Halloween TBR and added it to my list as soon as they started talking about it and now this review has made me want to read it even more! One time i got scared of my own reflection in the mirror… I made my twin sleep in my room for a few nights! When Rebecca finally reaches the cliff edge, Piper kicked her sister in the face and threw snowballs at Rebecca causing her to fall. Sophia goes to spend the summer with her uncle and cousins in their former schoolhouse home following the death of her best friend. Brooding Cameron with his scarred hand, strange Lillias with a fear of bones and Piper, who seems just a bit too good to be true.

I was also a little confused about Rebecca’s motives, because at first it seems like she’s malicious but then the author pulls a bit of a switch towards the end which didn’t really fit. I loved the setting, Scotland is a great setting for horror books, the dark and gloomy landscape works really well for a creepy and suspenseful atmosphere and I thought the isle of Skye was an especially great choice, the wild winds, the craggy cliffs, the old schoolhouse, all of it made for a very creepy setting, perfect for this book. Piper was almost cookie-cutter perfect for the majority of the book and then a sociopath for the rest.

This young adult book is spooky and chilling the entire way through, almost to the point of giving me nightmares!

It’s a mixture of Gothic mystery and horror, but also a contemporary story that greatly appealed to her. The Frozen Charlottes don't just want to stab your eyes out with needles, although that would be fun. While this is clearly written for a younger audience, I would still widely recommend it to anyone who enjoys creepy doll stories. So determined, in fact, that she recklessly leaps into action every single time a creepy noise or sensation occurs. I could almost imagine this book being played out as a movie, one with a lot of silence and creep-up-on-you scenes.I was hooked from the first chapter; within only a few pages I felt chills, and began to realise that this book would be a lot creepier than I had first anticipated.
