Maybe it's not great, maybe it's more sentimental than a Spielberg movie aiming for an Oscar, but overall, I personally found a lot to like.

There was none of the flow Western novels usually have, and even with the separate parts meant to transform it into a semi-collection of interconnected short stories, I feel it just wasn’t my cup of tea. br br strong Meet more wonderful characters in the next captivating novel in the em Before the Coffee Gets Cold em series, em Before We Say Goodbye em , releasing November 14, 2023! More of the recognisable cafe owners' stories are revealed, and we also meet wonderful new characters, including the mother and daughter, who in their own independent loneliness travel through time to save each other. A bit rough around the edges, Before the Coffee Gets Cold is a rather cute and moving idea with plenty of emotional scenes that will certainly charm many despite the execution not quite living up to the premise.em strong br br In a small back alley of Tokyo, there is a caf that has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years.

As for repetitive, the book, while a novel, is in many ways really just four short stories that are essentially variations of the same set up and (to a degree at least) the same conclusion.

Time travel is at the heart of this series, set in a peculiar bijou back-street Tokyo cafe, where a cup of coffee offers more than just a caffeine buzz, and the opportunity to go back in time is open to anyone who can follow the strange set of rules. After I got to the half way point, I had to agree with a few things I saw many reviewers commenting on; the book is repetitive and that it’s overly sentimental, both of which are negatives for me.
